The story of Sammys pets

i was a horrible person today, woke an old man up from his slumber. Wills been sleeping alot more lately bless him. still pretty active tho once he wakes up. I got him up for his evening cucumber. don't worry - muffin had hers too.

dinky is growing keen on the honey and milk drop treats.

Dinky is so much bigger now and still using her wheel - good to see her happy.

Smeagol the newt was cleaned out and stuff - did his usual circuits of the tank to inspect the quality of the clean. He's alot happier with his fake plants in.

last night misty got a reasonable run around - although she was much like a child with too much energy and somewhat hard to keep track of.

Also young muffin had her house cleaned out. she's currently putting it back the way she likes it. She seems to have forgetten that fingers aren't lunch however and I had to keep a close eye on her while I got her out and let her have a run around.

Dinky used her wheel last night for a while, don't recall her doing that before. Hopefully this is a sign of her growing confidence. she's sleeping now.

Muffin has a ladder on her cage that she has discovered she can move around.
This appears to occupying much of her time.

misty didn't like the cucumber. cucumber now removed from cage (although she grunted at me in disgust at me removing food??? - she didn't eat it!). However, she does really like carrot.

She was only out about the house for two hours today because i was cleaning out the fishies (and mouscle thingie) and misty tends to walk in and try to eat/lick/drink stuff she shouldn't. She gave me a look of loathing from her cage, however carrot chunks convinced her she was still loved.

smeagol has a new climbing rock thingie. he's getting used to that.

will and muffin are big fans of cucumber.

dinky is still a bit jumpy but doing ok i think.

misty has today had some fresh carrot, cucumber and a bit of other veg with her normal food. the hamsters are trying out some cucumber too. muffin got a huge piece and promptly popped it in her pouch while will chose to eat his where he stood. he's gone back to sleep now - bless.

dinky had a treat too, those she's (or he's) a bit nervous of them. dinky'll get used to it.

smeagol the newt swims!
although badly. looks like he needs to train up some. he seems to need or like to get to the surface of the water more than he can with the deep water - so we've taken some out and propped some rocks up so he can get to the surface. I think that he's not been used to deep water and this has left him not too good at swimming but we'll see how he gets on.

On a different note, smeagol got his tank cleaned out today. He needs fresh water now and again so he stays healthy. We've made it slightly deeper tonight to give him more oppurtunity to swim around. We'll keep an eye on him to see he's ok.

Today misty the rabbit once again tried to venture behind the sofa. This seems to be the holy grail for misty, her purpose in life. Sadly there are a number of cables running behind there that would be dangerous to a rabbit who likes to chew things. To this end the sofa is now heavily fortified.

Repeated attempts to tell misty not to go behind have not gone unheeded. Sadly, misty seems to think "NO!" and "Get out of there!" mean "Run away and come back and try later when I'm not looking". Since I was trying to clean her cage out at the time there was plenty of me not looking time. Still, the fortifications held - even if they do have new chew marks.

There appears to be some confusion right now as to whether dinky is a girl or a boy. At only several weeks old its too early to tell but the pet shop thought she was a girl. Hopefully we'll find out in the next few days...

oh, I forgot the water snails - elvis and presley and their assorted families.

Today Dinky the mouse moved into her new home. Its a small two tier affair for a small mouse - hence the name. She joins Willow, the elderly male hamster; Muffin the manic female hamster (who lives separately from little will); Misty the rabbit; smeagol the oriental fire-bellied newt; 10 fish and a mouscle.
